More updates!

October 27th appointment - 34 weeks 6 days - measuring at 36 weeks but lost two pounds from my weigh in two weeks ago. Blood sugars look alright most of the time but some of my fastings are high. Working with nutrition to try to correct that. Not using insulin or anything to supplment, but just monitoring and changing my diet. Ultrasound showed that my fluid levels were good. Belt monitoring showed the baby's heart rate would go up as she moved. They had to use this vibrating thing to wake her up because she wasn't moving at first. After that she didn't want to stop moving. No contractions and her heart rate did what it was supposed to. So far so good - five weeks left! :) Back again to the doctor in one week!

October 13th appointment - 32 weeks 6 days - doctor didn't tell me what I measured at. But I will start NLT? (something like that) in two weeks. For this I will be seen once a week and come in weekly each Thursday morning. I will have an ultrasound and fetal monitoring wtih the belts on my belly. Two pound weight gain from 3 weeks ago.

October 11 we took the boys to a sibling class at the hospital. They got to practice holding a baby and changing a diaper (on dolls). The boys went with us to tour the labor and delivery floor to see where mommy will stay and where they will meet their baby sister. I really liked this class. Conner laughed all through the short video. It taught that babies can only eat formula from a bottle of breast milk and pointed out some other good things as well.

September 22 appointment - 29 weeks 6 days - bp 119/77 and only gained two pounds since my last visit (about a month ago). Baby's heart rate was in 130s.

September 22 was the labor and delivery class. We got to tour the labor and delivery floor. This was helpful. The movies we watched were not that helpful. If anything they just worried me about pains of labor again!

September 17 we had the 3D/4D ultrasound in Lake Charles. Our whole family was there and to my surprise Conner could actually make things out and would say "There is her face" or "There is her hand" as we watched on the screen. We have a DVD and lots of pictures! We were very happy!

September Update on Appointments

I need to play a little catch up here. Much harder to keep up with this while working and having kids! I will be posting more pictures soon also!

September 1 I had an ultrasound scheduled to check on the placenta location. Worry here could be if the placenta was too low and could potentially be blocking the opening to the cervix. If this happens and they don't know about it then it could tear and have the potential for the mom to bleed to death. That makes it sound very scary! So I am glad they are checking everything to make sure I will be fine. If there is a problem, then they would have to schedule a section for me which kind of scares me too! I just hope everything will be alright. Clint was able to come to the appointment with me. I could see just how happy he was to see our baby girl moving around. She really just kept moving the whole time. The sonogram tech was going to just double check for us that she was a girl and she had a hand down between her legs trying to block it from us! But she did move it and we were able to confirm, yet again, we are having a baby girl! Since we only saw a tech, we have to wait for the radiologist to review the pictures of the placenta location, and then at my next OBGYN appointment I will have some results back.

August 25 I had my regular OBGYN check up appointment. I was almost 25 weeks and 6 days. She measured to the top of my uterus and said I was measuring at about 25 weeks. Zane was with me and we were able to hear the baby's heartbeat. He was so excited to hear it and noted that it seems like the heartbeat sounds louder and stronger now. Everything was good, next appoint in another four weeks. Next to schedule my ultrasound and blood work for the glucose screening and probably a few other things and urine test.

July 29 I had my regular OBGYN check up appointment. I was 22 weeks. Zane was still in MT with Grandma Carol, but Clint and Conner were at the appointment. We were able to hear the baby's heartbeat and find out that everything was ok. There was a doctor in training there with the regular Nurse Practitioner that I see and he read to me back the 20 week ultrasound results. They noted the placenta was low and recommended a follow-up ultrasound to make sure that the placenta was moving up as the pregnancy progressed.

June 28 I had a regular OBGYN check up appointment. I was 17 weeks and 6 days. The baby's heart rate was 147 beats per minute. I gained about 6 pounds at this point.

June 18, I was 16 weeks and 1 day we went for an ultrasound in Lake Charles. We found out we were having a baby girl! So exciting! Clint and Conner were there to sit on the comfy couches and watch the ultrasound on the connected TV mounted up on the wall. It was really exciting for all of us.

June 1 I had a regular OBGYN check up appointment. I was 13 weeks and 6 days. Baby heartrate was 150 beats per minute. I need to schedule my ultrasound for between 20-22 week s to check all of the organs.

May 5 I had a regular OBGYN check up appointment. I was 9 weeks and 6 days. The baby's heart rate was 177 beats per minute. I previously had lab work done on April 25 and it all came back just normal/fine. I also previously had an ultrasound to check to be sure our due date was correct. Due date stands at 12/2/2011. I think the actually measuring at around 9 weeks was for the due date to be 12/3 but they decided to just keep it at 12/2/2011 because obviously there can be a little deviance from the norm.

My initial intake appointment I had a very helpful LPN who took my vitals, gave me a big water bottle and lots of information. I needed to schedule my first appointment, get bloodwork done (somewhere around 9 tubes of blood and I didn't pass out), and schedule an early ultrasound for sizing of the baby. I took tests on February 19, 2011 at home that were saying pregnant, but must have had a very early miscarriage or the egg didn't actually implant into the wall - since the ultrasound confirmed that this was a new pregnancy.

New Baby on the Way

Thought I should keep up with my blog on the latest Baby Standlea! Pictures and more info to come! Due date is December 2, 2011 and the doctors are saying "It's a Girl!"

Another doctor appointment and less than a week til my due date!

So I had a doctor appointment today at 39 weeks and 2 days! They did a cervical check and said I was 2cm dilated and maybe only 20% effaced. So making a little progress. She didn't do a sweeping of the membranes or anything, but she said things were going along ok. She said the baby was still a little bit in a high position, maybe a +4 position as a guess. She also said he wasn't a huge baby and didn't seem worried about his size. She said he was maybe around 8 pounds after feeling around my stomach pretty good. Clint got to hear the heartbeat for the first time. Her machine wasn't working that great which was a little scary at first, but then we heard our strong heartbeat! So any day now!!!

Getting closer and closer!

Had an appointment today at 38 weeks 5 days. The midwife was GREAT and so nice! She is the one army midwife there. She reminded us that we don't HAVE to have everything thats recommended and pointed out the stuff on the eyes can make their eyes puffy, so I think we might delay for 30 minutes to an hour so we can get a few little pictures of Conner before he has puffy eyes. She said she estimated the baby was 7 to 7.5 pounds. She did a real thorough job feeing him and his position head down. She measured me at 37cm. So we are assuming the baby has dropped from before. I didn't have her do a cervical exam, athough at first she was so excited to do it and possible sweep my membranes, haha! So we all thought that it would be better to wait til my next appointment (5 more days) and then have them check my cervix then. Clint should be going with me to that one! That appointment is back with the lady who didn't seem to care much about me and seemed too pre-occupied with another patient who she wanted to get a C-section.

Had an appointment last week at 37 weeks 5 days. This midwife was really nice! I had her do a cervical check and she thought I wasn't dialated and was maybe 25% effaced. She said my cervix was softening and so my braxton hicks contractions were doing something to get me ready! She measured me at 39.5cm!

Vicky and I made a belly cast! This was a lot of fun and turned out really great! We just got the things we needed at a medical supply store and really only used about $20 worth of material! It was worth it! Not sure what to do with it now! Maybe put Conner's footprints on the side where he kicks the most or something. Any ideas?

Less than 3 weeks til my due date!

I made it through a little cold that definitely had me under the weather. I was sick for about two weeks and it is just now starting to go away. Thursday, March 6th I started to feel more braxton hicks contractions than ever before. This sort of freaked me out, feeling unprepared for labor and delivery, so I looked up the childbirth class dates and times in Olympia. The very last all day class was on Saturday the 8th, so I signed right up! My dad went with me the first half of the class and my mom went with me to the second half. I feel so lucky to have such a supportive family. It was a pretty informative class. She told us a lot about the process of birth and the stages, practiced some breathing while holding handfuls of ice cubes (this was not easy with a stuffed up nose being all congested and tired from that), and we got to try out all kinds of massaging things to see what we liked the best! With that class I also got a infant safety and CPR class which was on the 15th. Christina went with me to this! Again, thanks to my supportive family! We learned more opinions of all kinds of baby products - some useful and some not...but I have noticed that when someone has a good or bad opinion on something, they seem to think that is the ONLY good thing for instance. Like only this detergent is the best....almost implying all the other ones are bad. I am just taking all the advice and will form my own opinions. This way I can decide what is best for us and go from there. I am sure there will be trial and error with things too. So of course after my few days of more and more braxton hicks contractions, they have died back down to being more just one or two in the evening like normal (from 33 weeks on). So he is trying to hold out til daddy gets back!

I also had my 36 week appointment on the 10th. I saw a third midwife, Backman, and she was so distracted with another patient. I really feel like I did not get a "real" appointment or have her full attention. I am going to say something about it, in a nice way, at my next appoint. She was just a little discouraging to see because I am with the midwives, and I liked the idea of having a midwife because I expected a little more attention and care as I will be nervous with this all being my first time. She measured my uterus at 34 cm, which is the same from my 33 week appointment. If Conner hasn't grown in 3 weeks, I think this would raise concern and she would remeasure. She actually didn't even tell me the number when the other two did. I had to ask and she didn't even seem phased. I am sure Conner has been growing though! He seems bigger in my belly, thats for sure! At 36 weeks I had gained 30 pounds exactly. I haven't weighed myself since then so we will see!! I think I am staying in the 25-35 range pretty good though, despite my daily need for ice cream and whatever sounds good! =)

Just over 5 weeks to my due date!

Well as of about 33 weeks I have been having daily Braxton Hicks contractions. A few a day, in no regular pattern, but more typically at night time. There aren't painful in any way and I figure my body should practice as much as it wants to! I have had a little more back pain and notice a slight swelling in my hands and feet off and on, but nothing too bad. Still wearing my rings! =) Still another week til I go in to meet another midwife. Then two and a half weeks after that I meet the 4th midwife. Seems like my appointments are so spaced out, but even with my asking for more appointments to get to know the midwifes better - they didn't offer me up any other appointments. I am getting so excited, anxious, and nervous about the big day and after! So many questions - like when he will come, how the labor will be, the length of the labor, will he have any problems, what kind of baby will he be, will clint be here?? ect ect ect I try to keep them in the back of my mind, but the closer I get the more I seem to think about them!

January 31st I had an ultrasound appointment at Madigan. The ultrasound area is on the same floor as labor and delivery, but in a completely separate area from the OB clinic. I didn't actually see a midwife, but just an ultrasound technician. The lady was so nice who did the ultrasound. She seemed so knowledgable also! His weight estimate was 4 pounds 2 ounces. This was exactly 2 weeks ahead for the averages - but that isn't too bad. All of his bones were checked and measured. All parts of his brain were measured to make sure they were growing correctly. They measured how much spinal fluid he had and that all his vertebrate matched up with eachother. They checked the circumference of his head is right about 30cm, and his diameter was 8 or 9cm. They checked to make sure the placenta wasn't too close to the cervix. They checked to make sure there was the right amount of amniotic fluid for him in there. They did a really thourough look at him, and gave me a lot of pictures. I didn't get them from there, wink wink, but they did a 4D ultrasound for me where we could see his face! He is so adorable to me! I can't wait to see him and hold him! He has hair too! You could see the hairs all sticking off of his head just floating in the fluid!

Almost 30 weeks!

Wow in two days I will be 30 weeks along! Sometimes it seems like time has flown by. So I am all set up to be seen by the midwife team at Madigan. There are 5 midwives there. I have already met one and I am scheduled with two other ones in the next two appointments. I have an ultrasound appointment scheduled for this week also! Normally they don't do ultrasounds in the states, but they are doing a transfer in ultrasound to make sure they have the information they need. When I come in to the hospital for labor and delivery, the midwife who is on call will be with me the whole time. They aren't like doctors where they just come in and check on you every so often. This way they can help explain more what's going on and help with more natural ways of pain management and techniques. I really like how all of this is sounding. I signed up for an intro to labor and delivery at Madigan, like what to expect there, ect. I also signed up for a prenatal breastfeeding class that is put on by lactation specialists. Why not take the free classes they offer if I have time? I am looking into signing up for a breathing type of class, but haven't signed up officially for anything yet.

I discovered at around 27 weeks I could feel hiccups. It feels like a heart beat pulsing down very low in my abdomen, at least a few inches below my belly button (apparently indicates he is head down most of the time according to the midwife I saw last week). I feel him move all the time, multiple times a day, and he seems to be getting stronger everyday. 10 weeks left to go!

Update before a busy month!

23 weeks 5 days flowers were delivered from Clint while he was deployed! My favorite flowers! He is so thoughtful! I love him so much!


24 weeks 1 day New shirt I found on sale at Kohls for like $6! I am a good shopper for maternity clothes I think! He is really starting to make his appearance!



25 weeks Little Baby Conner in there!! Christmas Eve!


26 weeks! New Years Eve! Jessica's Wedding Day! Lot's of fun little events for Conner! and lots of belly rubbing might I add too by everyone, haha!

I had an amazing shower with tons of family and friends. I felt really showered with things for Conner it was great! Thanks so much to everyone for everything. I feel really blessed! Well in just a few days I fly back to Germany. I need to get some things taken care of, check on our place, and all that before coming back home for 7 months! It will be great to be here with my mom and family and friends when Conner is born. He is moving so much! Since he is getting bigger his movements seem to be more like real movements than flutters or just kicks. Like an arm moving across that segment of my stomach or something. It almost feels like the area tightens up right before he moves so sometimes I have some warning! Doctor appointment again in less than a week! I can't wait to see him! I know he will look so much bigger!!

23 weeks 1 day ultrasound profile picture!

So today was my first appointment in the states! It was my first appointment with an American doctor. It was a small little office, and everyone there seemed really nice. They had me pee in a cup, took my weight, and blood pressure. Everything seemed fine. I have gained about 10 pounds at this point (with shoes and jacket on - kind of weird she didnt have me take it off). My mom went with me and we were lucky to get an ultrasound! They wanted to check out the little guy and make sure everything was ok. We saw all his arms and legs. The placenta seems to be on the left hand side, and he likes to be with his main body on the right hand side. I always feel him here, especially at night. Sometimes he feels like a little rock. Then I can feel kicks down below my belly buton and occasionally punches or arm movements up by his head in the upper right hand side. The movements I feel all seem to go along with the ultrasound, so he must be nestled in there and like his spot! My mom stood up and watched the bigger screen with the doctor, but I got to watch this tiny little screen. Still was amazing to see him of course. I love to watch him move around on the webcam. My mom thinks he looks like Clint, then my dad later even said from the one picture he thought he looked like him. The doctor kind of laughed thinking...he is still so small to really tell who he looks like! I think this doctor will be good. I get to choose which hospital I want to have the baby at. So I can call each one and go on tours of each hospital. I will call soon to see if they have any tours they already do each week so I can go check them out. Then I can arrange to take a birthing class (with breathing and relaxation techniques, ect) at that particular hospital which is 4 classes (one a week in the evenings), a breastfeeding class, and an infant care and cpr class. So I figure whatever I can do to feel slightly prepared, even if just mentally, is a good thing!

I did get a doctor appointment scheduled. Only two Tricare providers to chooes from in Olympia that are civilian - one had a first name of James. So I called them first and they could get me in! Let's hope things go well and little Conner is doing great!

New Belly Pictures - Starting to Show!

This was a picture I took of my laptop screen of a short video clip my doctor made for me. He was flexing his head and swallowed in it! You could see his heart fluttering and his stomach. It is amazing to see all his bones forming! This was at our 19 week appointment!

Conner is sooo active. He kicks around or turns or who knows what all the time! I love to feel him move. It doesn't annoy me or hurt me in any way. It is so cool to know he is alive and moving around inside of me!

So I had an appointment set up at Madigan, then Tricare called and said they canceled my appointment! So now on Monday I have to go through the hassle as soon as they open at 7:30 am to try to get a new one rescheduled since there are no new ones available within two weeks. They say I need to just see a nurse first, and not even see a dr or have Conner checked! This makes me so mad! They should have told me this two weeks ago when I made the appointment. I specifically made it for this week because it is the week before my mom gets chemo and usually the week she feels the best! I really hope everything works out!

Back in Washington

Well Conner survived his first trip in belly on an airplane! We flew from Germany to Copenhagen and then Copenhagen to Seatac. We made it safely and just fine! Just tired from the long flight!

The day before our traveling day we had another baby appointment. Blood drawn at the end, I didn't even ask to lay down and I did just fine. It ended up being all bruised though the next day and still is a little now! 19 weeks exactly at the appointment! He is estimated to be about 6 inches crown to rump (head to butt) and about 3-4 inches in leg length. His weight estimate is about 11 ounces (my baby books say 7 ounces is average for 19 weeks). So hopefully he isn't too big of a baby! =) He does not have a cleft upper lip as told by the doctor and was definitely confirmed that he is a boy! We got to see up close into the 4 chambers of his heard. He was being a little difficult boy though. Just when we would get a glimpse of his face or side profile he would turn away. So this can only be seen in our little video clips. Our doctor made me a DVD with 7 little clips. I can't attach them on here or I would. At one point we sort of saw a cute little shot of his nose on the ultrasound. I have an appointment scheduled for January 8th back in Germany and will most likely schedule one for the beginning of December at Madigan. I hope my mom feels up to going with me! I think it would be special for grandma to get to see her youngest grandchild in tummy! =)

This one is hard to explain unless I can physically point things out, but there is his ear, back of his head and his hand. His hands were always up by his head. Cute little guy!

He's a moving little boy!

So I can feel Conner moving! Not all the time, mainly at night, but it is so cool! Two nights ago I was pushing on my stomach since he seemed so active, hoping I could feel him externally. I felt him once, only once but it was so cool! I know it is only the beginning, but the first little signs are so exciting!

I ordered the stroller and car seat from the furniture store. We ordered it in the sage and taupe pattern you can see in the picture. Graco seems to be popular and reliable. The infant snugride car seats seem to have safe ratings as well. So I should look forward to having many of the larger items out of the way when I return from my visit back home!

And the baby is....

At my last appointment at 15 weeks and 1 day things were so exciting! So at first I asked lots of questions! First appointment for questions! Then when I was getting ready for the ultrasound, the doctor goes we might be able to find out the sex if we are lucky today! Jeni, who went with me to the appointment, goes "Oh I can't wait to find out!" Or something like that....of course the doctor reminded it's if I want to find out, but OF COURSE I want to know!!! So within about a matter of two seconds she has found the right spot and took a picture. She asked me what I saw: It's a BOY! Conner James Standlea will most likely be his name! So so clearly and unmistakably a boy! Then since we were on the "picture" screen when we went back to live motion, he had crossed his little legs. I guess he figured his job was done for the day and he already gave mommy her little peek!

The doctor gave an estimate of 5 ounces for weight. I checked my baby books and that isn't supposed to be until 19 or 20 weeks! We are only at 15!!! So baby must be growing pretty well! The doctor showed me the heart, the stomach, the kidneys, the brain, the femur and some other bones. You could see the spine already too which was new! The feet are almost an inch long! I didn't get a crown to rump length, but next time we will see where we think he is at on the charts! =) The doctor also did a 4-D viewing of the baby! It looks orangish and fills in the gaps to give you an idea of baby's figure in a more visual way. Before leaving, the doctor gave me 3 pictures and a DVD with 3 videos on it (two 4-D and one normal ultrasound of the baby opening and closing his mouth). It is so cool! I can send it to Clint so he doesn't feel like he is missing out on as much! I was able to talk to Clint on the phone while still in the car right after the appointment to let him know we are having a little boy! We are both really excited!

Mommy at 15 weeks 1 day! Cute maternity shirt huh! I have only lost like 4 or 5 lbs since my first appointment. Really I am not showing much yet at all.

Just a little update and some furniture!

In case I forgot to mention, the baby is due April 7! The day before Clint's birthday which is pretty neat! I ordered the furniture below! It could take 2-4 months to get here! That way at least it will be back hopefully shortly after my trip back home! I also bought a matress here just the other day too! So some things are already ready or will be here for me to put together which is great! So I finished up the first trimester with barely any morning sickness. Just a few gags to food early in the morning and I had to stop brushing my tongue, but even just my teach made me gag a little! Now started the second trimester, I have been sick all week! Not sure if I am sick sick or if this is morning sickness because it lasts all day! All the books I am reading say the second trimester you have the most energy and feel your best! So this sucks! I wish Clint was here to pamper me! I feel like I am sleeping all the time too! I just want the days to go by!

Next appointment is on Tuesday, only a few days away! I can't wait! I will be 15 weeks and 1 day! I really hope that I can find out the sex of the baby! I want to start looking into clothes and things! =) babycenter.com says at 15 weeks you can see the sex, so I'm hoping!!!

Getting up to date!

July 28th - I felt overly stuffed from dinner that night, a really good dinner though, while staying in Garmisch, Germany! We had gone down randomly to spend a night to get away before my birthday and before Clint left.

July 29th - I woke up still feeling the same odd feeling in my stomach, just like a lot of pressure. We went for a walk and had lunch at a Pizza Hut in Germany. We took a horse carriage ride back to the hotel and then went to the PX to get a test. I took the test around 6ish, and it was still about 6 days before a missed period...there was just a feeling. I took the test and it was positive. I wasn't sure how to react so I ran out of the room and checked the box. Clint checked the stick and it was pretty positively positive! (For 3 months I took tests the first day I could right away, but then after so many negatives it is easy to be a little shocked still! I had given up and didn't take one the month before this!)

July 31st - Positive Pregnancy Test from the Health Clinic. Clint was able to go with me. We set up my first appointment in Amberg Hospital for August 21st. It was sad knowing Clint wouldn't even be able to go to my first appointment with me since he was leaving on the 14th.

August 21st - First appointment for the baby! Got all my tests done and I did ok with the multiple tubes of blood drawn! I had a few pictures of the baby! Jeni went with me and we got to hear the babies heart beat and see it beating. The heart was really primitive and seemed to just be in half of the "stomach" area. It was so precious to see the heart beating.

September 18th - Second baby appointment! Didn't have my regular doctor, but the doctor I saw did a pretty good job. He said the baby is right on track for growth. Jeni took me again! I had lost 2 pounds since my last appointment. Most likely just eating healthier. This visit was quick, and we just did an ultrasound to check on the baby. I got to see how the head is growing! I got to see the heart beating and hear the heart beating. I got to also see the legs! They are actually longer, like proportionate to the body! The head is still a little big this early!

Then the little indents where the hands were, the tummy, and the feet or legs around the bottom. The little baby had its legs crossed a little too! The baby was moving around! I could see it!

Not much morning sickness really. Only a few things make me gag early in the morning, but I get over it. I have been working subbing at the high school and on my masters. I am keeping busy while Clint is away.
